A few years ago, one of my favorite cousins turned me on to a 21-day detox which was so effective that I’ve tried to do it at least twice a year ever since. I’ve tweaked it a little over the years and now I call it The Best Detox Ever! It is a bit hard-core, but it’s such a great way to detoxify the system from impurities—in my case that would include sugar (a.k.a. “the devil”), hamburgers, and fried foods. It’s a good exercise in the art of self-control. And of course, there is the added benefit of weight loss or maintenance too, but that is of far less significance (wink-wink). Weight loss aside, the best part of this detox is actually the amount of energy and clearheadedness you’ll experience on this fast—you’ll have to experience yourself to really understand. And with the holidays approaching, now might be a good time to give it a try. A detox can be a real shock to your system, though so here are the three steps you’ll need to take to prepare your body before you begin The Best Detox Ever! 1. Spend about 3 to 5 days weaning yourself off sugar, alcohol, red meat, and carbs. Don’t be too hard on yourself at this point. You’re probably addicted to these yummy foods that wreak havoc on your system—but that will all be over very soon. The idea at this stage is just to lessen the amount of these foods in your diet. 2. Transition to the Master Cleanse (A.K.A. The Lemonade Diet). This is optional so I won’t go into a lot of detail about it. But, yes, it’s the same diet made famous by Beyoncé when she decided to lose weight for her role as Deena Jones in the 2006 screen version of Dreamgirls. However, the liquid detox created by Stanley Burroughs has been around since the 1970s. Read more about it at www.mastercleanser.com. 3. Go Shopping. Stock up on distilled water and begin to explore the raw veggies at your local organic market—lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, and carrots are about to become your best friends. To stave off headaches, I recommend that you drink Tealand’s Organic Smooth Move Senna Tea every night before bed once you begin the detox—and make sure you get 8 hours of sleep every night. This will help to keep the toxins flowing out of your body. I also take 5000 mg of Biotin to help with hair growth (since you won’t be getting large amounts of protein during the detox). You can find it at your local health food store, supermarket, or vitamin shop. Once you follow these steps you’ll be ready to embark upon a detox that will change the way you look and feel in just 21 days. Click here for all of the details.
